LGBT-Phobia: The Radical Christian ViewIt’s no big surprise to anyone living on planet earth: Fundamental Christians have a huge problem with the LGBT community, who they often (ignorantly) lump together under the title of “homosexual”. In fact, if you Google right now, “Why homosexuality is bad” (not that all sexually oriented people are homosexual by definition), or do the same on YouTube, chances are you’ll find a religious apologist or some Fundamentalist preacher spewing Bible verse after Bible verse trying to justify his position. Expect to hear the typical “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” tripe over and over again, give or take a few words.
The way I see it, Fundamentalist Christians - the same Christians who put down womens rights, reject science, and are radically pro-life (etc) - are deliberately and wilfully ignorant about the LGBT, and they often expose that every time they open up their mouths about them.
That’s basically he reason why I’m writing th
Religious Indoctrination of ChildrenIf there’s one thing that I would like to voice my disagreement with, it’s definitely assimilating/indoctrinating children into their parents religion without the child’s consent. Of course, most children probably don’t realize what’s going on when they are indoctrinated, while their parents might not see anything wrong with it. That’s sort of why I call this a disagreement, I guess; I do strongly feel that all children should have the right to pick whichever religion they want to be devout towards (If they want to be religious at all), and they should also be entitled to their own metaphysical beliefs, without having them forced on them by their parents.
Now some might ask the question: How do you know if a child is being forced? Or, what if the child wants to be religious, even following their parents religion.
Well, there are a few things to consider. First of all, it’s pretty obvious when a child is being forced to be religiously devout vs
Accusations Aginst ApostatesRecently, I wrote a poem entitled “I No Longer Believe”, which basically sums up all of the likely accusation one might make to an individual who reveals he/she is no longer a believer in the Christian faith. The poem is filled mostly with references to Bible verses, which Christians often apply to individuals who are defined as “Atheists”, or - more specifically - Those who have no positive beliefs and lack conviction in the existence of any spiritual or meta-physical person/concept/place, etc.
So what exactly are these accusations that Christians might make towards apostates (those who abandon an organized religion and no longer believe in it’s doctrines)? Well, before I get into the “what”. I think that it’s fair to address the “why” element first.
Most religious people believe that their scriptures are infallible; containing no errors, contradictions, and are demonstrably true. In addition, these people also believe that t
Why I'm not an Atheist/ Rejecting Labels“If you’re not a Christian, then what are you?”
If I ever come out of the closet about no longer being a Christian, I’m sure that I’ll be confronted with this question. For a very long time, I wasn’t sure about how I should identify myself, or more specifically, which “title” I should use.
But here’s the catch: I didn’t convert to another religion, nor am I religious now. I don’t have any beliefs in any creative deities or anything supernatural/metaphysical at all. Be it miracles, fate, fanciful or mythological creatures, spirit photography... I have no beliefs in any of it. Still, there’s just one problem that I see with people, or most likely the way that people think. Some people aren’t comfortable with such a long winded answer, and so they’d most likely lump together into the category of being “Atheist.”
One time I had a rather unpleasant conversation with a preacher about the Christian
Yu-Gi-Oh Dawn of the Pharaoh Chapter 1Yu-Gi-Oh
Dawn of the Pharaoh
There was once a legendary battle so powerful, so fierce, that some even say that it was fiction. Yugi Muto, who was well known for being a powerful and difficult duelist to face against. That such battle was against Marik Ishtars evil half. It was a long and brutal battle of the ages, but Yugi eventually won the battle with his egyptian god cards, Obelisk the Tormenter, and Slifer the Sky Dragon.
As years went by, Yugi Muto's other half named Atem, wanted Yugi to bring him to some egyptian ruins. He wanted him to bring him to these ruins, because he believes he has finished what he should have years ago. When they arrived, they both fought against each other. But to Atem's surprise, Yugi was victorious. As Atem crept further into the ruins, he disappeared and never to be heard from again.
Years later, Yugi is now raising a family with his wife, Tea Muto. Yugi is also raising his son which he named his son Yami after his old friend, Atem. But as a
Interview With KhalfrododDaedalus: Hey people, I'm here with my fantastic friend, khalfrodod! I'm going to be asking him a few questions and posting them on the interwebs for all of you to see!
Daedalus: Are you ready for this Khal?
Khal: Yeah, Daedalus, I'm ready.
Daedalus: Okay, so what would you say is your favorite kind of art to post on DeviantART?
Khal: Traditional art, obviously, I feel more 'in the zone' than if I were to do computer graphics.
Daedalus: What first got you interested in getting a DA account?
Khal: It must have been when I decided that I would make a slow start at a career in the art industry. Also complements from my family got to a frequency that made me think 'huh, am I really that good?' I still don't think I am, hence the practice.
Daedalus: Are you glad that you got an account?
Khal: Yes, I'm glad. it's been a welcome change.
Daedalus: How wo
VOTE United Kingdom Independence Party! The issue which people are presently forgetting here, is the EU dictatorship. We are being distracted by policies which all sound very nice and useful, but still these things are irrelevant, relative to the bigger picture. EU means flooded uncontrollably at base level. No matter what rules and regulations we would like under EU rule, we would always be "Over-ruled", therefore it is integral that we are 100% certain of an EU EXIT. Whilst Cameron has failed to deliver even his optional referendums over the past years, we find ourselves in a situation of him very feebly offering us a choice, not for today, but in a few years time, at which point, it's too late...
A few years time, could just about be acceptable "IF" that few years time was a complete and full Exit, NOT a referendum. To have our freedom of choice suspended for a couple more years will provide ridiculous consequences to the whole soul purpose of that having that referendum. UKIP will not take, sorry you need to wait, sorry
Critics of Christian Fundies: God Haters?I mentioned in an earlier article that Fundamentalist Christians may accuse apostates of Christianity of being God haters. In other words, they reject Christianity because they’re mad at or outright hate the Christian God. Now I’m here to expound on a similar argument made my Fundamentalist Christians: The idea that criticizing Christianity is the equivalent of “hating the Christian God too.”
This argument is often brought up with this question: “If they [critics of Christian/church practices and those classified as antitheists] don’t believe in God, then why do they keep talking about him?” This comment is often followed by the accusation that Atheists have more faith than Christians do, or that they just can’t live with the fact that other people believe in the Christian faith, and therefore have taken it upon themselves to try and “choke out” the belief of the masses.
So what about the first charge? Do critics of Christiani
Women and Geek, Pop CultureWomen and Geek, Pop Culture
Observing changes women present in the wonderful world of geek, pop culture.
By Christopher Harris
Hey Everyone, and welcome to the fourth installment of “Women and Geek, Pop Culture”. This series, like the name implies, will highlight some of the more authoritative roles women have in geek media. For example, the series will pin-point certain forms of media by briefly underlying how a particular show might diverge from tropes and reoccurring narratives we expect to see today. It’ll analyze fictional characters in TV, comics and video games, and emphasize the effects these characters have on future media and the representation of women.
This segment will be the final edition keeping with the theme of “Change”. So far, I’ve simply brought up some of my favorite characters as well as more, influential characters, that I see in various types of media. They each represent my
